Larson, Larock among new winners in Eagle River Speedway special
Six classes of racing machines competed on the night and fans were treated to a fireworks show at the conclusion of the evening. The Junior Sprints started things off with Jake Zimmerman getting the heat win over seven other racers. Denver Larson used his outside pole spot for a heat win in the 600 sprint class while David Blackberg got a heat win in the Stock Cars. Jason Zdroik took the checkereds in the B-Mod heat, Troy Larock in the Unified Street Stocks, and Jason Zdroik, doing double duty, got the heat win in the ERS Late Model division.
Before intermission, the Junior Sprints took to the track for their 12-lap main event. Pole sitter and heat winner Jake Zimmerman was not to be denied on this night. He left the field and led from flag to flag winning by a large margin of nearly half a lap. Great battles between Mason Zdroik and Mason Gwidt made for an exciting race.
Zdroik ultimately held off Gwidt for the runner-up spot.
After a brief intermission, five more action-packed features made their way onto the speedway. Starting with the 600 Sprints, the brothers Larson would start on the front row. Dylan Larson, the younger of the two, drove to victory lane on this night. Great battles throughout this feature kept the top four in a tight group the full 12 laps. Several challenges were mounted by Denver Larson, but it wasn't enough as Dylan Larson came out on top.
The Coffin Construction Stock cars were next up to tackle the one-third mile. There was close racing again, as is always the case with the class labeled as "too tough to tame."
For most of the 15-lap event, a large blanket would have covered the field. Ryan Valeria and Rick Mahlberg started up front and ran side by side for the first couple of circuits. Ryan Glembin made his way through the field before a lap 8 caution, that took Kevin Bogdanovic and Valeria out for the night. After the restart and a battle with Tom Brumlick, Glembin got to the point and never looked back before parking it in victory lane.
There were nine scheduled B-Mods for the Chef Rene's feature, but a broken part in the heat kept DePere's Doug Mauer out of the event. Veteran driver Duane Dunbar from Marenisco, Mich. started from the pole and led all 20 circuits on the night. It wasn't without challenges along the way as four cautions slowed the pace. Jason Zdroik started third and challenged Dunbar throughout the feature, but Dunbar stayed glued to the bottom of the track to help claim the victory.
Next up, the Eagle River Dock & Lift Unified Street Stocks took to the track. A stout field of seven cars did not disappoint on the night. There was great racing throughout the 15 grueling laps, with a first-time winner in victory lane. Troy Larock, who won the earlier heat race, drew the pole for the feature event and held off charges the whole time en route to his first ever Street Stock win. To wrap up the night, the Sweetwater ERS Late Models rolled out. Dustin White looked to be in control of the 15-lap feature with Jason Zdroik hot on his heels putting on a show for the lead. As the leaders made their way through lap traffic, contact on the front stretch between White and Zdroik brought out the caution and White was forced from the track with a flat left rear. Dan Zelten also left under this caution, and with 3 laps to go, Zdroik rolled back to victory lane.
Fireworks from Harry's Fireworks closed out the night.
