Tonic Sol-fa performs roughly 100 concerts a year in 48 states and has starred in three PBS specials, according to a press release announcing the Nicolet performance.
"Start with four superb, harmonically matched male vocalists. Now add finger-poppin' rhythms and the singers' commitment to leave their audiences grinning and grooving. Sprinkle in a little percussion just to annoy the purists when you call the quartet an a cappella group. Total it all up and you get Tonic Sol-fa," the release states.
Tonic Sol-fa is based in Minnesota, but its appeal and reputation are national in scope, the release states. The group performs roughly 100 concerts a year in 48 states and has starred in three PBS specials.
On the recording front, they have released 10 albums with combined sales of more than 2 million copies.
The group formed two decades ago at St. John's University in Central Minnesota. Members include lead vocalist Shaun Johnson; tenor and vocal percussionist Greg Bannwarth; baritone and percussionist/vocal percussionist Theo Brown; and bass Jared Dove.
Tonic Sol-fa's profile rose to the national level after an appearance on "The Today Show" and coverage in Newsweek magazine, the release states
"Our community loves vocal music which is why we feature it every year as a big part of Nicolet Live!," said Nicolet College Theatre Director Jim Nuttall. "With Tonic Sol-fa, the Nicolet audience is getting an absolutely top-shelf representative of a cappella music. The guys really know how to entertain, as well."
The Tonic Sol-fa performance is part of the Nicolet Live! 2019-2020 Performing Art Series and will take place in the Nicolet College Theatre.
