Middle school skiers compete in Hodag Nordic Challenge
Ryan Morien led the Hodag boys, taking eighth in the seventh- and eighth-grade division. His combined time between Saturday's 3.3-kilometer freestyle race and Sunday's 3.3-kilometer classic race was 26 minutes, 32.0 seconds. Mason Shinners (15th, 27:30.6), Charlie Loomis (27th, 30:44.5) and Iain Rumney (38th, 34:08.0) rounded out the Rhinelander group.
Olin Slette was the fastest for Rhinelander in the boys' fifth- and sixth-grade division, taking second overall at 31:47.7. Austin Slette was 10th (42:55.9), followed by Calvin Loomis (11th, 42:58.9) and Carter Nelson (12th, 46:10.2).
Nora Rutkowski led the middle school girls' contingent, taking eighth in the seventh- and eighth-grade class (29:51.0). Macy Lester was ninth (30:07.4) and Sophie Miljevich was 11th (31:06.8). Brynn Teter finished 15th (32:04.8), Luna Grage was 25th (39:17.3) and Katie Marshall was 28th (43:46.6).
Mya Gillen (41:15.5) was sixth in the girls' fifth- and sixth-grade division.
