Volunteers at the dining site work with the site manager to package the Meals on Wheels, serve the congregate meal and then help clear and clean up, the release states. The primary times volunteers are needed are from approximately 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Rhinelander Dining Site is also in need of a dishwasher.
Volunteers are also needed to deliver Meals on Wheels using their own vehicle and are paid round-trip from the dining site at 57.5 cents a mile. Routes generally take between one and two hours, depending on the number of households. Volunteers can work one or more days per week.
Volunteer escort driving is another volunteer opportunity. This program helps people over 60 and disabled adults over 18 who cannot drive get to medical appointments or to obtain groceries. The only requirement is a dependable insured vehicle and good driving record. Drivers are also paid 57.5 cents per mile from their residence roundtrip.
