Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association endorses Tiffany

"We're very proud as an organization," GLTPA executive director Henry Schienebeck said. "We don't often endorse candidates ... it's a good day for us and we look forward to seeing Senator Tiffany in Congress representing this region and all the people of northern Wisconsin."
"Your support is appreciated more than you know, because you are the cornerstone industry," Sen. Tiffany said. "This is a cornerstone industry here in Wisconsin and the Great Lakes states."
Tiffany spoke on his history with the forest industry and tensions between using natural resources and sustainability.
"There is no industry that is more sustainable. There is no industry that understands renewing the environment better than the forest products industry," Tiffany said.
Tiffany said he was proud of his partnership with GLTPA as well as his work with other organizations in the forest products industry, including work updating the Managed Forest Law and efforts to increase timber production in the national forest through a program called the Good Neighbor Authority that authorizes the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service to enter into cooperative agreements with federal, state, and county foresters.
"We're the first state east of the Mississippi to implement the Good Neighbor Authority over the last five years," Tiffany said. "The amount of harvest on the Chequamegon-Nicolet has now doubled in those five years, and while there's more work to be done, the Good Neighbor Authority is working here for the people of Wisconsin."
Tiffany said one of his top priorities was to ensure national forests were managed properly, referencing a study indicating a decline in harvest dating back to 1988 on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest had cost northern Wisconsin $250 million as a result of improper management.
"That improper management affects us in all ways of life here in northern Wisconsin," he said. "It isn't just the wood that goes through the mills, but if they're not being managed properly, it's going to harm tourism."
Tiffany has also received endorsements from former Congressman Sean Duffy and former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.
He is facing Jason Church in the Republican Primary for the 7th District seat.
