Local Slumberland stores donate beds during the holidays
"Each year we donate a mattress, box spring and a frame to children sleeping on the floor." said Jason Hesch, owner of the two local Slumberland Furniture stores. "This year we are donating almost 60 sets, it's our biggest year ever."
Slumberland Furniture stores across the Midwest have been participating in this program since 1991, and have donated over 45,000 beds. Hesch partners with local charities in Rhinelander, Minocqua, and Lac du Flambeau to help identify children in need.
"It's simply amazing to be in a position to be able to help get a child off of the floor, or out of a poor sleeping situation, and give them a new bed to sleep on," Hesch said. "Sleep plays an extremely important role in the development of our children, and if we can help them even in the slightest, it is worth it."
To help, donations of sheets, comforters, blankets and pillows are being accepted at the stores. For more information about the program, visit one of the local stores or visit www.40winksfoundation.org.
