Beverly Leila Bartel Olson, 89, met her Savior Jesus face-to-face on Dec. 31, 2019, after a brief, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1930, in Chicago, to George and Betty Bartel. She grew up in Racine, graduating from Horlick High School in 1948.

On Nov. 23, 1950, she married Herbert Olson, whom she met at a YMCA dance where he was a handsome soldier in uniform. They lived briefly in Fort Riley, Kansas, and La Crosse before settling in Racine where their family grew to seven children.

From 1967 to 1979 she lived in Jamestown, North Dakota, where she sang with the Jay Notes, bowled on a team, and was active at church.

In 1979, she and Herb moved to their home in McNaughton. She then worked as the secretary at Fort Wilderness.

Bev was a lifelong crafter, and a talented seamstress, crocheter, knitter, and quilter, often giving her handiwork as gifts.

After Herb passed away, she enjoyed traveling with her daughters, from cruises in the Caribbean to a train trip to the West Coast to multiple road trips. "They come pick me up, and I keep getting in the car," she said once.

Bev had a peaceful and contented spirit that continued right up to the end of her life and made an impact on all who knew her. She will be forever remembered for her deep love for family and friends, her continued welcoming of houseguests, her regular quest for "a new taste sensation," and countless other things.

Bev is survived by her sister, Gloria Kneser, Milwaukee; brother-in-law Richard Olson, New York; her seven children: Beth (Ronald) Dittus of Fargo, North Dakota, Cindy (Bill) Hart of Marquette, Mich., Dean (Linda) Olson of Belton, Texas, Claire (Ken) Olsen of Lake Stevens, Wash., Joan (Jerry) Taxis of Jamestown, North Dakota, David (Jill ) Olson and Tim (Kim) Olson of Wausau; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, two nieces and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herb in 2011, and brother-in-law Wayne Kneser.

Visitation for Beverly will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan.10, at the Carlson Funeral Home. Pastor Jeff Weddle will be officiating.

The Olson family would like to thank North Dakota Hospice Organization for the attentive care given to Beverly in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or 800-272-3900.

Online condolences may be left at www.carlsonfh.com.

The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Olson family.
