Central and Pelican fifth graders take part in rainforest project

Fifth-grade students at Central and Pelican Elementary schools in Rhinelander recently found a way to visit the Amazon rainforest in the middle of a northern Wisconsin winter - they recreated the rainforest from scratch. Each fifth- grade student chose an animal native to the Amazon rainforest to assemble and form using paper mache, according to a school district press release.

After adding multiple layers of paper mache, students painted their animals and got to work making plants, trees, and flowers to decorate their animals' rainforest home.

The students at Central chose to set up their rainforest in an entryway so that students could pass by their work on their way in and out of the school building.

At Pelican, fifth-grade students transformed an area of the art/music room into a rainforest walkway, which all grade levels have enjoyed exploring.

This project was completed in art class, but was tied to the fifth-grade English/Language Arts module that involved studying the rainforest.
