Relay for Life of the Northwoods is bursting into spring with their annual Daffodil Days event, a colorful campaign which raises funds for the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life to support groundbreaking cancer research, patient services and other cancer society programs.

Daffodils can be purchased by the bunch for $10. Orders are being taken now through noon on March 11 and are being sold in Eagle River, Three Lakes, Conover, Lake O'Lakes, Conover, Rhinelander and surrounding communities. Flowers will arrive on March 19.

Joy Turpin, event lead for the Relay for Life of the Northwoods, said Daffodil Days is one of their biggest annual fundraisers in addition to the Relay for Life. She said the funds raised through this campaign will support local and national efforts to aid cancer patients and their families.

"The money goes to all sorts of programs the American Cancer Society already has to help people who are facing the challenges of cancer and their families," Turpin explained.

Turpin said the American Cancer Society offers a variety of programs and research, including sponsoring stays at Hope Lodge in Marshfield so families can stay with their loved ones during treatment; a 24-hour hotline which provides immediate assistance and information to those who need help right away; and a traveling ride program, in which they provide patients free rides to their various doctor appointments.

"There are quite a few ways the funds raised will help everybody, including people right here in our own community," Turpin said.

The flowers for this fundraiser were provided by Horant's Floral Center in Eagle River, which Turpin said has been supporting the American Cancer Society for many years.

For more information, or to place an order of daffodils, contact Turpin at (715) 479-6560, via email at joyfaithchapinturpin@

gmail.com or download an order form from the Relay for Life of the Northwoods website.

In addition, Turpin said local Relay teams can come up with their own ideas to fundraise. One such event is the Relay's Shamrock Shindig, set to take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 13 at CT's Deli in Rhinelander. Live music, a full bar and menu, raffles and door prizes will be featured, and the funds raised will benefit the American Cancer Society.
