Frederick "Fritz" Diekvoss, age 84, of Rhinelander, died Feb. 17, 2020, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1936, in Forest Junction, Wis., to Harvey and Ella (Moeller) Diekvoss.

Fritz graduated from Brillion High School in 1953. He married the former Helen Faust on Sept. 14, 1957 in Kaukauna, and they were blessed with 62 years of marriage. They moved to Rhinelander in 1967 and have lived here since. Fritz was employed by the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel when he came to Rhinelander. In 1969 He and Helen purchased Grimelli's Pizza. They changed the name to the Pizza Haven and have owned and operated this Rhinelander staple since that time. It is truly been a family affair with all of his daughters being a part of the business to this day. Throughout all of those years, Fritz worked hard making everything just right. He was proud of his family's efforts in all it took to operate the Haven and he was thankful for all of their wonderful customers.

Fritz was a member of the First Congregational UCC since moving to Rhinelander. He began skiing at the age of 40 so he could have something to share with his kids, outside of the business. He was a Wisconsin sports fanatic, whether it be the Brewers, Bucks, Badgers and the Packers and he was a longtime season ticket holder for the Packers. Fritz was known for never leaving the game before the clock read zero, regardless of the score, which showed real dedication in the 1970s and '80s. That exemplifies what Fritz was all about. He was fully dedicated in whatever he was doing, whether it be his work at the Haven, skiing with his family, or the Packers. Above all else in his life came his family and his Lord and Savior, whom he looked to for comfort and guidance in his times of need.

Fritz is survived by his wife Helen, his children Pamela (Patrick) Young, Yvonne Diekvoss, Wanda (Todd) Diekvoss, Craig (Theresa) Diekvoss and Christian (Kelly) Diekvoss; his grandchildren Nicole, Danyelle, Geremiah, Michael, Chandler, Collin, Elizabeth, Annaliesa and Lucas, Christian, Nicholas, Alexis and Autumn; his five great-granddaughters and his cousin Lois Antepenko.

Fritz was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Stephanie.

Visitation for Fritz will be held on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 from 9 to 11 a.m., with funeral services following at 11 a.m., all at the First Congregational UCC in Rhinelander. Reverend Topher Mehlhoff will officiate. You may leave your private condolences for the Diekvoss family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Diekvoss family.
