The members of the local Steelworkers' Union #2-15 employed at Ahlstrom-Munksjo recently donated $500 to the STEM Scouts program in Rhinelander. Their gift will be used to provide more financial assistance to families in need so that money is not a barrier for anyone to participate in the STEM Scouts program, according to a press release. STEM Scouts is designed to focus on the fun and exciting opportunities for boys and girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Through weekly afterschool meetings using six-week thematic modules that cover a variety of disciplines, STEM Scouts is designed to be fast paced, thought-provoking and fun. The co-ed program, available to Rhinelander elementary and middle school students, provides a great opportunity for collaboration and gives all youth a chance to develop better STEM understanding and skills. Youth can join labs located at Central and Pelican Elementary right now! There is also a STEM Camp available for all elementary and middle school students from June 29-July 2 at the Crystal Lake Scout Reservation in Rhinelander.
