A Sugar Camp man accused of fatally striking a motorcyclist on State Highway 17 in Sugar Camp Aug. 28, and leaving the scene, is scheduled to appear in Oneida County Circuit Court Friday afternoon for what court records list as a plea/sentencing hearing.

Jeffrey M. Liebscher, 53, is charged with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, and hit-and-run resulting in death, in connection with the death of Sean J. Holtslander, 23, of St. Germain.

According to a criminal complaint filed Aug. 30, Liebscher allegedly struck a motorcycle operated by Holtslander at approximately 10:15 p.m. Aug. 28 and fled the scene. The initial 9-1-1 call reporting the accident was received by the Oneida County Sheriff's Department at 10:23 p.m., according to the complaint.

According to the report of detective sergeant Chad Wanta, the Chevy Silverado Liebscher was allegedly operating was located about 2 1/2 hours later on family-owned property, but Liebscher was not in it.

Liebscher was eventually located in Three Lakes over 11 hours after the crash.

He made his initial court appearance Aug. 30 before Judge Michael Bloom.

Before recusing himself from the case, Bloom commented that he knew Liebscher personally and referred to him as "a good man." He also set a $1,500 cash bond before his recusal.

On Nov. 11, in an appearance before Judge Patrick O'Melia, Liebscher entered not guilty pleas to both charges.

A pre-trial conference had been scheduled for Jan. 14 but it was later taken off the calendar and replaced with a plea/sentencing hearing to be held at 1:30 p.m. Feb.14.

Liebscher's older brother is also facing a criminal charge in connection with the accident.

Brian Liebscher, 55, is charged with one count of misdemeanor resisting or obstructing an officer for allegedly not telling investigators the night of the accident his brother had contacted him and he had given him a ride to Three Lakes. His attorney has filed a motion to dismiss the charge. A hearing on that motion is scheduled for March 12 also in front of O'Melia.
