Paulson, at left, and River News Sports Editor Jeremy Mayo, right, present a check for $450 to Diane Geis of the American Cancer Society. The cause hit home for Paulson, who lost an aunt to cancer this past year.
"My aunt passed away from cancer and I just thought what organization to I want to (play for). You never know what the future holds for any of us, or any of our families. Hopefully, someday they can come to a conclusion that there's more of an opportunity to help others," he said.
Geis, an organizer for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Northwoods event - scheduled for May 16, 2020 in Eagle River - said the money will be put to good use.
"The donations that we're raising, and Brian's donation, are going to help to provide services, advocacy, education and then research - predominantly research. We've made a huge impact in the last few years on doubling down on our research budget and that makes a huge difference," she said. "It impacts our community greatly to know they have the support of businesses and local community members as well when they put in their personal time, talent and treasury."
