During the years in Madison, Russ also taught physics at UW-Extension for 30 years. In addition to this busy work schedule, he managed to bowl, play softball, and spend time swimming, skating, fishing, golfing, and camping with his kids.

Russ later worked for Olin Corporation in Baraboo where he met and married Dorothy Baumgartner. Upon leaving Olin, they worked together at Plastic Ingenuity in Cross Plains, until retiring.

They enjoyed many years of travel, especially spending winters in South Texas.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy and his children Tom (Terri) Bouffiou, Laura Jacobson, Mary Graylow, Lydia Bouffiou Paul, Katherine Bouffiou, Russell L. Bouffiou, Shelley Bouffiou and Michael Bouffiou; brother Doug Bouffiou; stepsons Jim (Julie) Baumgartner and Gary (Patti) Baumgartner; and brother-in-law Carl Peterson.
