Oneida County highway brine storage project expected to continue after Jan. 1
In early December, the Oneida County Highway Committee accepted the low demolition bid from Superior Excavation and Concrete of Eagle River, which also had been the contractor for the foundation portion of the building at the highway department's Kemp Street shop complex.
Oneida County highway commissioner Bruce Stefonek told The Lakeland Times Superior Concrete and Construction has been paid in full for the foundation work, a total of $145,000.
Brownell Construction of Crandon bid $179,500 for the rest of the building shell.
"The insurance company is reimbursing the highway department for the building materials and labor to replace the wood shell to the point it was at prior to the unfortunate accident," Stefonek said, adding that the highway committee was advised by corporation counsel to hold off on proceeding with the demolition and any new bidding until the contract with Brownell Construction had been terminated.
That took place at the end of the day Dec. 17, he added.
"Because of the holidays coming up, the demolition will take place after the first of the year," Stefonek said. "The insurance company is paying for that, too."
He said he anticipated bid solicitations for a new building contractor will go out the last part of January or the first part of February.
