Two local youth were elected on Nov. 23 to serve in leadership roles through Oneida County 4-H.

Louis Malais, 17, of Rhinelander, was elected to serve as vice president and Lorelai Aylesworth, 12, of Rhinelander, was elected to serve as the alternate secretary for the Oneida County 4-H Leaders' Association, according to an Oneida County UW-Extension press release.

Youth in grades six and older and adults are eligible to be nominated for officer positions with the Leaders' Association, the release states. The Leaders' Association consists of adults and youth and works closely with local 4-H staff. The organization's purpose is to conduct county-level 4-H programs with youth, raise funds and manage a budget to support 4-H programs, coordinate county-level recognition for youth and adults, represent 4-H to the community, and advocate for 4-H.

Youth ages 5-19 can join Oneida County 4-H for free online at http://v2.4honline.com or by calling 715-365-2750. The four H's in 4-H stand for head, heart, hands, and health. This means 4-H is committed to providing opportunities for youth to learn life skills like decision-making, problem solving, caring for others, generosity, making healthy choices, and more.

4-H gives youth opportunities to become leaders, make decisions, and make their voices heard.
