Marilyn Ruth Koenig, 92, of Peachtree City, Ga., went home to heaven on Dec. 9, 2020. She was born April 12, 1928, in Rhinelander, the daughter of John and Hannah Luethy. She was baptized as a child of God on May 26, 1928, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, and confirmed in her faith on March 29, 1942.
Marilyn grew up in Rhinelander and spent the first 82 years of her life in the town she knew as home. After graduating from Rhinelander High School, she worked for about seven years as a secretary in the insurance business. Marilyn met Victor Koenig at Zion's church choir and they were married on May 9, 1953. They continued to sing in the choir for almost 50 years.
Marilyn and Vic started a family soon after their marriage and Marilyn devoted much of her life to raising their children. She did everything she could to share her faith, provide an education, and prepare them for their own lives. Her children are forever thankful for the selfless and loving care that she continued to give them until her last day.
Marilyn was blessed to have five grandchildren who all loved her, admired her, and enjoyed spending time with Vic and her. To them she was a model of strength, contentment, happiness, and Christian living.
Marilyn was kind to everyone she knew and a caretaker for her parents, friends, and fellow Zion Church members, serving on the Ladies' Guild for almost 50 years. In her later years, she was blessed to have many friends take care of her, enabling Marilyn to live independently her entire life.
Marilyn and Vic started spending winters in Peachtree City in 2005. When Vic passed away in 2010, after 57 years of marriage, Marilyn moved there permanently. She joined the senior center at the Gathering Place and faithfully attended the exercise class three days a week, making many new friends. When COVID hit, she continued to exercise three times a week, and led her neighbors in the routine outside in the breezeway. Marilyn and her neighbors spent many hours over the years sitting in the breezeway, chatting, and laughing. Marilyn was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg, Georgia. She loved her church family and especially enjoyed all the young children.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Vic. She is survived by her children, David (Donna) Koenig, Mary Beth (Gary) Eckhardt, and Tim (Sandy) Koenig, her grandchildren, Christopher (Kathryn) Eckhardt, Laura Eckhardt, John (Lauren) Koenig, Sam (Haley) Koenig, and Megan (Tyler) Tappe, and many dear relatives and friends.
