She was united in marriage to Billy G. Fannin and she raised three children and helped run a construction business. They moved to Alaska in 1986. Joan later returned to Wisconsin to be closer to her family.
The happiest of her years were spent with her life partner, Norm Knoll. She was the co-pilot when they flew Norm's plane, the first mate on the boat when they were on Lake Superior, and the special reserve deputy when Norm was the Forest County Sheriff. She was always on the hunt for treasure either at a rummage sale or a casino.
Joan devoted her life to her family. Some of her favorite pastimes were baking her amazing cinnamon rolls, painting ceramics, and picking raspberries. She always had time for a cup of coffee and conversation. You never left her home without a hug and a gift.
Surviving Joan are her children, Karl (Deb) Fannin, Talkeetna, AK; Sharon (Ward) Stern, New Hope, Ala.; Allen (Jeannie) Fannin, Argonne; 7 grandchildren: Jason Dodd, Meghan Dodd-Marks, Kasey Dodd-Landreth, Anthony (Demetrian) Dodd, Lee (Mitch) Dee, Jeff Fannin, Amanda (Jesse)Tokarczyk; 13 great-grandchildren; special friend Norm Knoll, sisters, Verg Grant; Janey Boynton, Necedah; Vivian Angerer, Lubbock, Texas; brother, Hugh Bowman, Rhinelander.
