Carol Louise Polkowski (Perry), age 85, of Rhinelander, passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2020 while a resident at Tomahawk Health Services.

Carol was born in Rhinelander on May 8, 1935, to Harold and Florence Perry. She was raised in Rhinelander and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1953. Carol graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Rockford, Ill. in 1957. She was united in marriage on Sept. 7, 1957 to Eugene Polkowski at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rhinelander, and were married for 63 years. The couple settled in Rockford and raised five children on Gene's family farm near Winnebago, Ill. Carol worked as a Dialysis Registered Nurse at Rockford Memorial Hospital for 11 years and retired in 1990. She continued her education while working and earned a Bachelor of Medical Arts from the University of St. Francis, Joliet, Ill, in 1978.

Carol and Gene built a home in 1973 on Lake George, Rhinelander, where they hosted numerous family vacations and holiday events. In 1992, Carol and Gene moved to their home on Lake George as permanent residents. She loved the Northwoods and was happy to spend her retirement years living on the lake.

Carol was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rockford, Ill., Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and later at St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church in Sugar Camp.

Carol enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, sewing, crafts, country music, warm campfires and boat rides on Lake George. She was always available to read a story to her children and grandchildren with love.

Carol enjoyed dancing with her husband. She and Gene enjoyed friendship with others while learning new dances to keep with the times, including Swing, Square, Polka and Line dancing. They enjoyed Swing dancing at many events and family weddings and shared their love of dancing with others.

She will be dearly missed by her surviving children: Jeffrey (Lori) Polkowski of Rockford, Ill., David (Deborah) Polkowski of Rhinelander, Marcia Singery of Elgin, Ill. and Karen (Dave) Polkowski-Armstrong of Rockford, Ill. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Polkowski; one son, Andrew Polkowski, brother Eugene Perry and sister Bonnie Lindner.

The visitation and Memorial Mass will take place at a later date.
