Mary Ann Roth

Mary Ann Roth
Mary Ann Roth

On August 13, 2020 heaven received one of the hardest working, helpful, energetic souls possible. Mary Ann was the matriarch of the family and there wasn't anyone who had not sought her advice, talked to her about their problems, asked for guidance and direction or simply just wanted to visit.

She was born in Chicago on June 6, 1932, to George and Mary (Orris) Fletcher. She moved to Rhinelander after marrying James Ehmann and together they had five boys. She later married Richard Roth and the they lived in Manawa, Oconto Falls, Richland Center and Wittenberg before retiring back to Rhinelander and spending eighteen winters in Arizona.

Mary Ann kept doing what she knew until death, which was yard work, canning pickles, baking pies and making apple jelly. She also enjoyed feeding the birds, tending to her garden and flowers and playing the piano. She loved hosting all the parties and family gatherings. Being at her house felt like home to everyone and over the years it was and she loved it.

Mary Ann was a loving, caring, wise, tough, hard-working, tenacious, reasonable, approachable and most importantly to everyone, sympathetic and empathetic. She never missed sending a card or making a phone call to someone for any occasion and there was no greater presence in the family tree.

She is survived by her sons: James (Sara) of Wausau, Eric (Elisabeth) of Royal Palm, Florida, Brian (Joan) of Rhinelander, Kirk (Tracy) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Christopher John (Laura) Ehmann of Green Bay, along with 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, George and Edwin (Ruth) Fletcher, and a sister, Sandra Fletcher. This list is incomplete because in Mary Ann's eyes, she is survived by every family member and their children and their children's children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard Roth and her siblings, Robert, Edna May, Joe, Silas, Patricia and Douglas.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the ER staff at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital, the Cardiology and ICU team at Marshfield Medical Center-Weston and to the staff at Rennes Health & Rehab Center in Weston for all of their effort and kindness.

A private graveside service will take place at Forest Home Cemetery with a public Celebration of Mary Ann's Life taking place in late spring of 2021.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin 54501, 715-365-4343. You are invited to sign the guestbook or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com.
