"Bob and I have been huge Y supporters starting with the Founders Campaign and continuing to today," Dr. Judy Pagano-Thoms said in a press release announcing the gift. "Initially we were supporters because of the benefits to children and families. As time has gone on we see the whole community, across the age spectrum, benefiting in both large and small ways. We have known about the Children's Learning Center, as our youngest went there as a toddler. From the beginning, in the 1980's, it was a quality place for children. A strategic planning process and community needs assessment started by the YMCA in 2018 concluded that Rhinelander was in need of much more quality child care for economic development to progress. When Ryan (Zietlow, CEO of the YMCA of the Northwoods) asked me last fall to be Capital Campaign Chair I said "Yes!"
"The generous donation from Dr. Judy and Bob helped us start on our path to realizing our vision." Zietlow said. "What is even more generous is the time that Dr. Judy has spent to make our community a better place. We will be indebted to her generosity for generations to come."
"We started sharing our vision for transformational changes last December, meeting with people on an individual basis," Dr. Pagano-Thoms noted. "With early support we had raised over $1 million dollars. This was almost entirely from individual or family donors, this early support truly represents a grassroots community effort. We suspended the campaign from March to mid-July but have now gone public and are campaigning once again. I am confident we will be able to raise the remaining $700,000 to achieve our goal of $2 million dollars."
"Our current times may have altered our timing to date, but further solidifies the need for the YMCA to evolve and shift to further meet community need. Realizing our vision will create transformational change for our friends and neighbors for generations to come," Zietlow added.
