He married Toni Quick on July 26, 1969 in Lockport, Ill. and they just celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
Jay and Toni lived in Illinois for a couple of years after their marriage and then moved to Rhinelander in 1974.
They helped operate, then owned and operated, Miller's Shorewood Vista Resort on Lake George until retiring in 2006. During those years Jay had served on the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce board.
He was also very active in the Hodag Sno Trails snowmobile club, clearing trails in the summer and grooming in the winter. Throughout his life he loved to water and snow ski and he taught many guests at the resort, and his grandchildren, how to water ski.
Jay loved to be outdoors and he enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially the yearly waterfowl hunting trips to Canada with his Dad and friends. He looked forward to deer hunting each year with his Dad and those same friends.
He and Toni loved to travel in the winter when the resort was closed and then year round after their retirement. They eventually bought a home in Florida and became regular snowbirds where Jay could enjoy walking on the beach each day.
Above all else, Jay found great joy in his grandchildren.
Teaching Trevor how to drive, camping with Ayden and teaching them all to ski, skate and go tubing.
Jay is survived by his wife Toni, his children Eric (Jennifer) Miller and Dareth Bowman, his grandchildren Timothy, Trevor, Autumn and Ayden, his great-granddaughter Scarlett, other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, private family services will be held at this time.
Jay will be laid to rest in the Forest Home Cemetery near his parents and brother.
A memorial is being established in Jay's name and may be directed to his family at this time. You may also leave your private condolences for the Miller family at http://www.carlsonfh.com.
