Ernest was born on Monday, Jan. 3, 1966, in Riverside, Calif., to Joseph E. and Billie F. (Adkins) DeBay Sr.
In 1972, the family moved to Rhinelander and in 1984 Ernest graduated from Rhinelander High School. He lived in Louisville, Kentucky where he was employed at a hospital, working in Pharmacy IT Support. In 2006, Ernie moved to Wausau where he was employed at St. Clare's Hospital with Pharmacy IT Support. Ernest moved back to Rhinelander in 2008.
He was Catholic by faith. Ernest enjoyed cooking, shopping, German Shepherd dogs and technology.
He will be dearly missed by his mother, Billie DeBay of Pettibone, North Dakota; four brothers: Joseph (Carol) DeBay Jr., of Rhinelander, Michael (Janice) DeBay of Rhinelander, Mark (Nadine) DeBay of Climax, Minn. and Warren (Kim) DeBay of Rhinelander; four sisters: Myra (Barry) Bissonette of Rhinelander, Vicky (Greg) Cummings of Rhinelander, Hiedi (Chris) Lindner of Pettibone, North Dakota and Beth (Bob) Rasmussen of Appleton. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Ernest was preceded in death by his father, Joseph DeBay Sr. on June 10, 2016 as well as an infant brother Willie DeBay and a brother-in-law, Tony Smaglick.
A Celebration of Ernie's Life will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Rhinelander V.F.W. Hall located at 1002 Coon Street, Rhinelander.
