David Liedtke
He was 73 years old at the time of his passing, born July 3, 1947.
Dave lived a life of service. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany during peacetime and Vietnam during the wartime. After his discharge he joined the Sheboygan Police Department for a short time and then moved on to the Sheboygan Falls Police Department where many knew him as "Badge 613". He served as a police officer for 25 years and retired in 1999. Included in those years of service he also served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT.
In 2011 Dave and his wife Donna (nee Marquard) moved to Sugar Camp, (Oneida County), to be closer to family and enjoy the beauty of the northwoods. However, this move did not end his service or commitment to help others. Dave went on 15 mission trips with many friends of various churches coordinated by St. Lukes ELCA Church. Many of those other volunteers became his best friends, and some are like a part of his family.
Recently he also volunteered at the Eagle River Memorial Hospital and the thrift store.
What he enjoyed the most was spending time with his beloved grandchildren, Emily and Graysen. They were the light of his life. Dave also loved to spend time in his workshop, fixing things or crafting items for family or fund raising events. On any given Saturday you could hear the sound of public radio and the polka music which he loved, on Sunday afternoon you would find him in his favorite chair cheering on his beloved Packers with an Old Fashioned. He also enjoyed reading, playing cribbage, sheepshead, traveling, and camping.
Dave leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Donna (nee Marquard), his daughters Nicole (Scott) Lea of Sugar Camp, and Amber (Ben) McDonald of Dallas, Ga., his beloved grandchildren Emily McDonald and Graysen Lea.
He will also be missed by his brothers, Willard (Bill) Liedtke wife Karleen, Gary Liedtke and wife Jodee, sister-in-law, Bonnie (Mike) Evans, sister-in-law Debbie Holewinski, his favorite Uncle Tom and Aunt Mary Jane Genske, along with Aunt Chris Jorin and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willard (Bud) and Irene Liedtke, sister Margaret (Peg) and brother-in-law Clem Kreye.
He went so peaceful, looking into the eyes of his beloved wife, Donna....he was there and then he was not.
So at peace, so peaceful. He will be missed by many.
Visitation for David will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home. All in attendance must wear masks and social distancing will be observed.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020 at the Sugar Camp Cemetery. All are invited to the graveside service. Social distancing will also be observed at the cemetery.
