Jack was born in West Allis on Friday, Oct. 20, 1922 to Frank and Genevieve (Glancey) Honrath. At the age of nineteen, Jack enlisted in the United States Marine Corps proudly serving his country during World War II. After the war he returned to West Allis and while he was at the Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee, he met his future wife, LaVerne Scharhag. The couple married on April 14, 1947 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. The couple lived in West Allis for a short time, moving to Rhinelander in 1949. Jack first was employed at Cleary's Dairy and then eventually started his own business, Honrath Aprraisers, which he owned and operated for 30 years.
John enjoyed fishing.
He will be dearly missed by his children, Jacqueline (Ric) Owens, of Florida, William Honrath of Little Suamico, Patrick Honrath of Oregon, Wis. and Anne (Dan) Helgeson of Rhinelander. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, LaVerne, and by three sisters.
The visitation for Jack will be held on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, located at 125 E. King Street, Rhinelander. Fr. Chris Kemp will be officiating. For the health and safety of everyone, masks will be required, and social distancing measures will be used at the funeral home and at church. To enter the funeral home, please use the Davenport Street entrance, and kindly exit using the Pelham Street doors. To enter the church please use the King Street entrance.
Immediately following the mass there will be a procession to Northland Memorial Park Cemetery.
