Doug was born in Chicago on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 1944 to Bernard L. and Margaret E. (Orenberg) Bartnick. The family lived in Wauconda, Ill. and Doug was a 1962 graduate of Wauconda High School.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 until 1968 during the Vietnam War. He achieved the rank of Petty Officer. Upon completion of his time in the Navy, Doug returned to Wauconda where he owned and operated a Tree Service from, 1968 until 2004. Doug moved to Rhinelander in 2004.
He is a member of the Rhinelander American Legion and a past member of the Silver Lake, Wisconsin and the Wauconda, Ill. American Legion.
Doug enjoyed woodworking, gardening and landscaping.
He will be dearly missed by his life partner of 36 years, Vicki Smith; two brothers, Bruce Bartnick of Ferndale, Wash. and Brian (Robin) Bartnick of Island Lake, Ill. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Madelyn Bartnick.
The visitation for Doug will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from noon to 2 p.m. Celebration of Life Service. Chaplain John Uhlarik will be the officiant.
Military Honors conducted by the Ray Rousseau V.F. W. Post #3143 and by two representatives from the United States Navy will immediately follow the service. For the health and safety of everyone, masks will be required, and social distancing measures will be used. To enter the funeral home, please use the Davenport Street entrance, and kindly exit using the Pelham Street doors.
