Betty Jane Angell, age 85, of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully at Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Facility on Saturday April 4, 2020, after extensive surgeries and rehab.

Mom was born in Neenah on Feb. 6, 1935 at Theda Clark hospital to Robert & Violet (Kohler) Sauer. Mom attended Trinity Lutheran Church/School in Menasha and had great singing talents. Mom and her cousin LaVone Kohler were asked while teenagers to sing at many funerals and weddings. Mom attended Neenah High School and after high school she worked at Menasha Superette as a butcher.

She met the love of her life, George Angell, while vacationing in Ladysmith after a whistle from her sister at that good looking guy in his Air Force uniform. He came to their car and exchanged phone numbers with her. They were married on May 3, 1952. George was in the Air Force at the time and they traveled to a number of different Air Force Bases all over the country.

They lived in Appleton for a short time, where two of their first eight children lived also. They moved back to Menasha where she continued working at Menasha Superette as a butcher. While in Menasha, God blessed them with five more children.

In 1965 George took a job transfer to Des Moines, Iowa as a new plant started up. Mom then took a job as a butcher at the Supervalu store for the 5 years they lived in Des Moines. Their youngest son David was born in Des Moines. In 1970 the family moved with 7 of their 8 children to Coon Rapids, Minn. where she spent her time being a homemaker, taking care of her children and bringing them to school and extra activities.

In 1973 the family moved to Rhinelander, where she continued taking care of her family duties. Mom worked as an Environmental Service Associate at The Merry Dale Resort and The Beachcomber Resort. She also worked with her very dear friend Diane Lepak at The Northwoods Golf Course. Mom was also involved selling Tri Chem and Artex paints and made many friends doing that.

Her interests were in cooking for her large family and always lots of laundry. Mom loved to crochet afghans & wash clothes, as she gave every one of her kids and grandkids an afghan for their wedding or shower gift. (Navajo print). Then as the family grew she would make everyone a new pair of slippers. Every year at Christmas each of her kids & grandkids received a homemade ornament. Mom also loved her family pets, Ting-a-ling, Big Red, Mama Kitty and her last Golden Retriever companion, Blake.

Betty was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Eagle River.

She loved her church family and was thankful to her Lord and Savior for all the blessings he bestowed on her throughout her lifetime. It is fitting that she leave this world at Easter when God gave her eternal life through his Son.

Mom will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters Christine (Chris) Angell, Nancy (Brian) Gehrig, Marlene (Mark) Rudolph, all of Rhinelander; her sons, Dennis (Cathy) Angell of Coon Rapids, Minn., George (Terri) Angell, Jr. of Rhinelander, Timothy (Janet) Angell of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Kenneth (Lori) Angell of Green Bay, and David (Trish Good) Angell of Fort Worth, Texas. She is survived by 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, her siblings Robert (Peg) Sauer of Appleton, Joan Roth of Neenah, Susan Tews of Fremont, Beverly Schneider of Oshkosh, Paul Sauer of Neenah, Diane (Rueben) Folske of Neenah, Kathy (Ron) Bucholtz of Neenah and Randy Sauer of Almena. She has 6 surviving brothers & sisters-in laws.

She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband George Angell Sr, and infant son; her mother Violet (Sauer) Spoehr, father Robert Sauer, mother-in-law Pearl Angell, father-in-law Forrest Angell and one brother, Donnie Sauer. Seven brothers & sisters-in-law preceded her in death.

Due to the present situation visitation and services will be held at a later date. You may leave your private condolences for the Angell family at www.carlsonfh.com.

The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Angell family.
