Rhinelander Cafe & Pub offers Easter special with portion of proceeds to be donated to charity

"We're going to highlight five or six local charities" including the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry (RAFP), the National Alliance on Temporary Housing (NATH), the YMCA of the Northwoods and others, Pub owner Mark Gutteter explained.
"It's my understanding that with COVID going on, the amount of donations are down, so it serves a dual purpose," Gutteter explained. "For one we can put some people back to work, and for two we can raise some money for important things in our community."
In this way, the Easter special becomes a win-win-win for all parties involved - employees at the Pub are put back to work, community members have the option of a home-cooked Easter meal and local charities receive donations at a crucial time.
Because the Pub has been closed since Gov. Evers' Safer At Home order went into effect in March, Gutteter said this special provides an opportunity for some of his 50+ employees to return to work.
"We see this as a possible springboard to continuing to employ some people and raise money for charities," Gutteter said. "As early as the following week after Easter, we're going to try and open for three nights a week. We're going to keep the program in place with the contribution to the charities for the duration of the shutdown."
Gutteter said the Pub is looking to reopen for takeout dinner only on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and might reconsider delivery options, but the charitable aspect will remain.
"Twenty cents of every dollar we sell during the shutdown is going to be donated," Gutteter said. "I think there's so much negative news out there that's all depressing, and so from our perspective, I think this is a great opportunity to show something positive - that we can all work together for the greater good."
In the midst of these trying times, individuals and businesses across the community are coming together in an effort to support those who might need a helping hand.
Since the Pub has been closed, Gutteter said he and his wife Patty have been cooking at home, bringing homemade meals and makeshift care packages to family members and loved ones. Since many are unable to leave their homes and the need for ready-made food is great, the Gutteters are doing what they can to help others.
"This restaurant has been in the heart and center of the community since 1911," Gutteter said proudly. "We've been here 109 years, and we see this as a wonderful opportunity to give back to a community that has given us so much over time."
"We're thrilled to raise as much money as we can for charities," he added.
Those interested in ordering from the Pub during the Easter special must order in advance. Staff will be taking advance orders Wednesday - Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Meals can be picked up between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Easter Sunday, April 12. Payment is due upon order.
The restaurant's full menu will not be offered during this Easter special; a choice of ham or chicken for $10, or prime rib for $18 will be available.
In addition, all entrees come with a choice of potato, mixed vegetable and dinner rolls.
"We will prepare some extra food as well," Gutteter added, "so if someone didn't get a chance to pre-order, we should be able to accommodate a few orders on Easter Sunday."
