Melvin attended schools in Rhinelander graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1943. He then served with the Merchant Marines and began service on the day Pearl Harbor was attacked. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Rhinelander. Melvin then went to work for the Motorola Corporation in Chicago for a number of years before returning to Rhinelander to help care for his mother. In Rhinelander he was employed by the Oneida County Register of Deeds until his retirement.
Melvin is survived by his nieces Mary (Alan) Ewan, Anne (Richard) Stoll, Jane Kuehn and Barbara (Scott) Cirilli, his nephews Joseph (Anne) Kuehn, Jeff (Becky) Kuehn, Timothy (Judy) Kuehn, Thomas (Cindy) Kuehn, John Kuehn and Daniel (Christy) Kuehn. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Doris Mae Kuehn.
Melvin loved his family and his home. He enjoyed every minute that he was able to spend with his family. He was like a second Dad to Kuehn children and took care of them often when they were young. He also enjoyed the land he owned in the town of Pine Lake and on Clear Lake. At home he loved to read, garden, tend to his land and entertain his family.
Graveside services for Melvin will take place at the Forest Home Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his parents. You may leave your private condolences for his family at www.carlsonfh.com.
