Ron was born Wednesday, Jan. 9, 1935, in Rhinelander, to Alfred and Alice (Perry) Wales. He grew up in Rhinelander and was a 1954 graduate of Rhinelander High School. While attending high school, Ron met Arlene A. Montgomery, they became high school sweethearts and were voted homecoming king and queen in 1953. They were married in June of 1954. The couple lived in Rhinelander. Ron began his employment at Cleary Dairy as a milk delivery man, he was promoted to a dairy salesman and finished his career with the dairy as the general manager. In 1981 Ron took a position as general manager of WJPD and WDMJ radio stations in Ishpeming, Mich. He held the position of general manager until his retirement in 1998.
In 1996, Ron purchased and moved to his camp on the Dead River Basin where he enjoyed riding on his pontoon boat, sitting by the bonfire and watching his grandchildren learn to waterski. Ron has enjoyed wintering in Casa Grande, Arizona and has done this since 1997.
He was proud of being the basketball coach at St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in Rhinelander for 18 years and the Babe Ruth baseball coach for the same amount of time.
He was a past member of the Rhinelander Jaycees, Kiwanis and Monday evening men's bowling league. He enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and attended the Ice Bowl! He also enjoyed Korbel and water, old time country music, John Wayne movies and attending the grandchildren's events. Ron loved watching and laughing with his children and grandchildren at Wales family events. He also loved when his family visited him in Arizona.
He will be dearly missed by his children: Edwin (Sharon) Wales of Rhinelander, Rhonda (Byron) Warnes of Silverthorne, Colo., Richard (Vicki) Wales of Marquette, Mich., Robert (Mary) Wales of Marquette, Mich., Timothy (Jodi) Wales of Rhinelander, Joseph (Sandy) Wales of Marquette, Michigan, Mary (Curtis) LeSage of Ishpeming, Mich. and Elizabeth (Bradley) Kowieski of Rhinelander; 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene A. Wales and a daughter, Ann Marie Wales.
The visitation for Ron will be held Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. until the 7 p.m. Prayer Service. Dn. Ron Bosi will be officiating.
