The teams was led by seventh-grader Sophie Miljevich who finished third overall, covering the 3.2-kilometer course in 12 minutes, 11 seconds. Fellow seventh-grader Reese Gehrig also cracked the top 10 for Rhinelander, placing ninth at 14 minutes even.
Other Hodags in the top 25 included Luna Grage (13th, 14:17), Leah Jamison (14th, 14:26), Lexi Bishop (16th, 14:35), Eva Hetland (17th, 14:36), Kayla Skubal (24th, 15:23) and Lynnea Kivi (25th, 15:25). JWMS scored 46 points, edging D.C. Everest by 12 points for the team title. Lakeland was third with 62 points, followed by Prairie River (Merrill) with 69.
Jackson Fuss was the leading runner for the Hodag boys, who placed fourth in the six-team field. He was 14th overall (13:49). Iain Rumney (18th, 14:06), Bobby Gibbs (19th, 14:21) and Payton McCue (20th, 14:22) gave JWMS four runners in the top 20.
Zacha King (32nd, 15:34), Holden Schmitz (38th, 16:38) and Carter Nelson (41st, 16:51) rounded out the scoring for the Hodags.
