Medford sweeps Hodag volleyball
Set scores were 25-8, 25-8, 25-6.
The loss dropped Rhinelander to 1-11 on the season and 0-2 in the Great Northern Conference. It was the team's only match scheduled for this week.
"To get ready for next week. I am just going to be finding a group that works well with each other. We still haven't clicked as a team," coach Brianna Scheuermann said.
Free points were hard to come by against the Raiders. Of the 22 points Rhinelander tallied in the match, 19 of them were either through kills or service aces. Sophomore Ariel Pauer led the Hodags with six kills and added three digs to go along with a pair of blocks. Junior libero Hannah Worachek had a team-high eight digs and added a pair of service aces.
"Ariel had six kills but she was hitting the ball a lot harder today. Taking more control of the front row," Scheuermann said. "Hannah had eight digs but I fell she had more than that. She has really been a force in the back row. We just need to find a way to get her more swings in the back row."
Aryssa Zasada had 17 assists on the night. Emily Jorgensen had four kills for Rhinelander and Kahlie Arneson had three kills. Scheuermann also noted playing time for Novalee Juel, who finished with a kill, and Julie Breivogel, who had four assists.
For Rhinelander, a number of points ended before they even started. The team was only 64 percent serving (8 errors in 22 chances) on the night and committed 13 serve receive errors.
"There is always passing to work on in order to get more chances to hit the ball," Scheuermann said. "Another thing we have to work on is our serves. We had some problems tonight with getting our serves in which just gives the team free points. We have a lot to work on, but we have the rest of the week to work hard to be ready for next week."
Rhinelander will have a busy stretch of competition next week, traveling to Wausau East Monday night before returning home to take on Antigo Tuesday. The team travels to Three Lakes next Thursday before heading to Antigo next Saturday for the first round of the Great Northern Conference tournament.
