The election was necessitated by Duffy's announcement late last month that he plan to resign Wisconsin's Seventh District Congressional seat for family reasons.
Duffy has stated his final day in office will be Sept. 23.
Almost immediately after Duffy's announcement, Tiffany and another Wisconsin senator, Jerry Petrowski (R-Marathon), indicated they might seek election to Congress.
Tiffany contacted The Lakeland Times on Friday to announce his decision.
"I am excited for the opportunity to represent the people of Northern and Western Wisconsin," Tiffany said in a statement. "I want to thank Sean Duffy for his leadership and for his work on behalf of the people of Seventh Congressional District. It is a great privilege to represent the people of the Northwoods in the Wisconsin State Senate. I believe I can have an even greater positive impact on the state of Wisconsin in Washington, D.C."
Tiffany, from Hazelhurst, was first elected to the Wisconsin state assembly in 2011.
According to Associated Press reports, Petrowski has decided against running for Duffy's seat.
