Daniel J. Stevens, age 93 of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully on Oct 25, 2019, at Rennes Health and Rehab Center surrounded by his family.

Dan was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Monico, to Martin and Edris (Bricco) Stevens. He married Betsy Post in 1947, and they raised two sons, Larry and Jim, in Rhinelander. Dan and Betsy had been married 27 years when Betsy passed away. In 1975, Dan married Viola Dervetski and they were married for 16 years until Vi passed away in 1991. Dan met and married Elvira (Scottie) Howell in 1997 and enjoyed many years in McAllen, Texas prior to her death.

Dan joined the Marines in 1945 and served his country until he returned home to Monico to begin his married life with Betsy.

They enjoyed many outdoor activities together including golfing, snowmobiling and gathering with friends. Dan was a member of the Lions Club for many years, including serving as a District Governor. Dan always said that his service in the Lions Club was one of the most gratifying things in his life. Dan also enjoyed travel and taking his motorhome across the country. Dan knew every highway to take to see the beautiful sights and could talk at length about each place he had visited. He also loved music of all genres, from the big band music to modern rock and roll. He could be found listening to his music and it was of great comfort to him.

Dan dedicated over 30 years of his life working for the Rhinelander Paper Company, and then along with Vi, owned and operated D&V Factory Outlet Store in Rhinelander until his retirement. Dan had a strong faith and was a member of both St. Mary's Catholic Church and Foursquare Church. He enjoyed reading the Bible, and his belief in the Lord was very important to him.

Dan was beloved by his family and had a booming laugh, a generous heart and was an outstanding storyteller with an excellent memory until his passing.

Dan is survived by both sons, Larry (Dawn) Stevens (Cushing, Minn.), Jim Stevens (Wingdale, N.Y.), his sister Rae Bednarski (Brown Deer), brother Tom (Vivianne) Stevens (Rhinelander), grandchildren Jody (Al) Pabich, Jill (Bruce) Butzlaff, Jeff Rethlefsen, Kristin Rethlefsen; great-grandchildren Kayla, Kayden, Nakyah and Alyssa; nephew John (Katrina) Stevens; nieces Nicole (Hanif) Sidi, Mary (Jeff) Kudronowicz, Kathleen Shildhouse, and many family members by marriage.

A private family service will be held at a later date. To quote Dan, "We are always living in interesting times." Dan will be deeply missed.
