Robert J. Rossi, "Bob" 88 of the Town of Pelican, passed away on Thursday morning, Sept.19, 2019 at the Tomahawk Health Services in Tomahawk, under the care of Ascension at Home Hospice.

Robert was born in Chicago on Saturday, Dec. 27, 1930, the son of Louis and Gladys (Twite) Rossi. Robert grew up in Shorewood and was a 1950 graduate of Shorewood High School. He attended U.W. Milwaukee.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army Airborne Division from 1951 until 1954. He was united in marriage to Gertrude M. Wood at St. Robert Catholic Church in Shorewood. He was employed by various automobile dealerships in the Milwaukee area as a finance manager. In 1981 Bob and Gertrude moved to Rhinelander where Bob took a position with the Crandon National Bank and later was named president of the bank before retiring in 1982.

Bob is a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, a past member of Duck's Unlimited, an 18-year hospice volunteer, past treasurer of the Lake Thompson Association, and a past member of the Board of Adjustment for Oneida County. He enjoyed building model airplanes, and fishing for walleyes.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Gertrude; children, Matthew (Paula) Rossi of Skagway, Alaska, Janice (Todd) Lorino of South Milwaukee; eight grandchildren, Melissa, Kathyrn, Emily, Erin, Andrew, Sonia, Christina and Anna. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren and a sister, Marguerite Gleissner of Newburg, Wis. Bob is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Stephen Rossi. and a brother-in-law, Alois Gleissner.

The visitation for Bob will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 1p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service.

Chaplain John Uhlarik will officiate. Immediately following the memorial service, military honors will be conducted by the Ray Rousseau V.F.W. post 3143, Rhinelander and by two representatives from the United States Army.

Memorial contributions in honor of Bob may be given to Ascension at Home Hospice, 111 E. Davenport Street, Suite 101, Rhinelander, Wisconsin 54501 or to the Oneida County Humane Society, 1852 N Stevens Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin 54501.
