Sophia Miljevich, a seventh-grader on the James Williams Middle School cross country team, was the first runner across the line in the girls' division of the Wisconsin Valley Conference middle school cross country meet held Tuesday at Standing Rocks Park near Stevens Point.

Miljevich covered the 3.2-kilometer course in 12 minutes, 41.51 seconds to edge Medford's Lindsay Kahn by 6.63 seconds for the overall title.

Miljevich's win helped the JWMS girls to a fifth-place finish in the 10-team meet that included all seven Wisconsin Valley Conference schools plus JWMS, Medford and Antigo from the Great Northern Conference. Luciana Grage was second across the line for the Hodags in 19th overall (13:54.76), followed closely by Reese Gehrig in 21st (13:57.71). Leah Jamison was 41st for the Hodags (14:35.98), Kayla Skubal finished 58th (14:56.78), Lexi Bishop was 72nd (15:15.08) and Eva Hetland was 79th (15:21.38).

JWMS finished ninth in the boys' division, led by Payton McCue in 64th (13:30.20). Jackson Fuss was 102nd (14:20.31), Ian Rumney finished 104th (14:22.10), Bobby Gibbs was 116th (14:38.02), Connor Terzinski was 147th (15:34.68), Zacha King finished 152nd (15:49.22) and Nahzeair Boykin was 157th (16:09.84).
