Trishaw rides available at Bell Tower Residence Oct. 17
The trishaw is a three-wheeled, pedal-powered bicycle with electric assistance that allows two passengers to sit in front while a volunteer cyclist pedals behind them, according to a Bell Tower press release.
"The trishaw gives passengers a similar experience to riding a bike - to feel the wind in one's hair is the philosophy of Cycling Without Age, a movement to get seniors back on bikes and out in the community again regardless of their physical abilities," the release states. "It began seven years ago in Copenhagen. Since then, it has spread to 40 countries worldwide. Now, it's in Merrill at Bell Tower Residence!"
"We are so pleased to have this trishaw, I think more than we ever imagined. Our residents love the trishaw rides," Bell Tower administrator Kris McGarigle said. "It is such a great opportunity for our residents to experience the outdoors, enjoying the scenery and being part of the Merrill community. It seems each week we are thinking of new places to ride on the trishaw. We are so grateful to our major sponsors - Church Mutual and Knights of Columbus, individual donors and all who supported our St. Patrick's FUNdraiser. This trishaw truly is a product of the great and generous spirit of the community of Merrill!"
The Bell Tower Residence is located at 1500 O'Day Street in Merrill.
Refreshments and rides will be available during the Oct.17 event.
