Farmers' market vendors hope weather holds out for two more weeks

The weather was an issue for a couple of vendors who didn't want their canned goods and cloth crafts getting wet. The deluge of '18 is still fresh in their memories. A few other vendors have put their produce gardens to bed for the season. Another decided to go to a fun extended family get-together. Then there's the vendor who either went to another craft venue (yes, some of the vendors can be found at other venues throughout the market or festival season) or headed back home in another state. Others had to work at their regular jobs.
I'm not surprised to say sales were very good for the vendors that showed up on that rainy Saturday.
We've been so fortunate this market season, though it's been a rather wet summer and even wetter fall, there has been nary a drop of precipitation during market hours most of the season.
With two more markets this year, let's hope the weather works with us. It might be cool, or chilly, or cold but little or no precipitation would be ideal.
One of the vendors told me a very sad tale last Saturday. She had been hearing how people are recycling canning jars. By recycling I mean they have been setting the jars in the recycle bin for garbage pickup. I almost wept. Any of the empty, home-canned goodies purchased at the Hodag Farmers Market should be given to someone who cans. The jars can be given to a family member, neighbor, or market vendor. None of the jars from the canners should ever find their way to the dump or recycle center. I'll let you in on a little known secret: home canners love receiving empty jars. Their faces will light up and they'll even say 'Thank You!' (several times in my case).
With only two more markets left in the season, now's the time to take a stroll through the market if you haven't been able to make it yet. If you want, I'll even make a big deal that you came or I'll keep it on the down low. Whatever works for you.
Stop at Pioneer Park this Saturday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and see all the fresh, locally grown produce and yummy home-crafted eatables available at the Hodag Farmers Market.
