George Thomas Maloney Jr.
He was born on May 7, 1926 to George and Kate Maloney Sr. He proudly served in the USMC during World War II and was severely wounded on Okinawa a couple of months before the war ended. He is the subject of the book "Letters from a Ground Pounder" written by Sonja Karlsen in 2010.
He lived most of his life in the Elcho, Post Lake and Rhinelander areas.
His father, mother, infant daughter Maureen, granddaughter Kim Norland, brother Don (Delores) Maloney, lifelong friend Bud Krueger, and beloved wife Gloria, whom he married on Jan. 25, 1947, preceded him in death.
He leaves behind four sons: Tom (Michelle), Dan, Shannon and Mike Maloney; grandchildren: Travis Maloney, Lindsey Maloney and Shawna Maloney; three great-grandchildren, Amber, Collin and Kaitlyn; nephew, Leroy (Jenny) Maloney and niece, Kathy Maloney. Also surviving are other relatives and friends.
Beside his love of the Marine Corps, George loved hunting, and fishing his entire life. For the past 41 years, he opened walleye season with his good buddy Guy Bradbury (now living in Upper Michigan). In October of 2016, he went duck hunting with sons Tom and Mike in North Dakota.
A great man from the greatest generation will be sorrowfully missed, but is happy now with the people whom he has missed.
He will be remembered for his saying, "I Tell it Like it Is!"
