Heywood Banks returns to Nicolet College June 8
His one-of-a-kind style and songs appeal to college students, yuppies, business types, country folk, kids, and seniors, the release states.
"Heywood Banks is an audience favorite," commented Theatre Director Jim Nuttall. "This show is likely to be a sellout, so folks should reserve their tickets early."
Banks, a nationally famous comedian, has appeared on A&E's "Evening at the Improv," MTV's "1/2 Hour Comedy Hour," "Entertainment Tonight," and Showtime Comedy Club Network. He has been featured in Rolling Stone and People magazine and is also a frequent guest on the Bob and Tom national radio show. Equal parts genius and buffoon, Banks intersperses his humorous observations of life with twisted, inventive, bizarre songs, sung and played in a variety of styles including folk, country, rock, pop, jazz, and beyond.
Banks is perhaps best known for his song "Toast," which he sings while providing toaster percussion accompaniment. The lyrics are contagious: "All around the country and coast to coast, people always say what do you like most? I don't wanna brag, I don't wanna boast. I always tell them, I like toast. Yeah Toast!"
Banks is also a shameless punster, singing, "She's the one-eye love," and "I want to get you a loan." Subject matter includes bugs, nose hair clippers, the pancreas, tasers, wiper blades and a huge statue of Jesus near Cincinnati that looks like it was carved from butter.
As a young adult Banks wanted to be a serious folk singer/songwriter when he was trying unsuccessfully to earn a degree at Western Michigan University in the late '60s. Remembering those years, Banks said, "I wish I could've given my father back his money. I started out wanting to be a handsome, romantic folk singer. And got neither handsome or romantic." He is, however, the master of the catchy comedy song.
