Elaine S. DeBrock, 90, longtime area resident of Rhinelander passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019, at Rennes Rehabilitation and Health Center in Rhinelander.

She was born in Lake Nebagamon on Sept. 6, 1928, to Nicklas and Lydia (Matson) Abrahamson.

Many may remember Elaine as the longtime service manager for Sears in Rhinelander. She was also the epitome of the outdoors woman - from standing beside her husband Russell and helping him and supporting him in his job as a conservation warden, to bow hunting in the mountains of Montana, or fishing on the Brule, and gun hunting with her brothers, family, and friends and in later years watching her children and grandchildren enjoy what the outdoors had to offer.

She was a Red Cross swimming instructor to most of the children in Siren during the '60s and early '70s. She was an avid cross country skier and could always be seen with her dog by her side.

Elaine's greatest enjoyment was the months of the year she lived at the family cabin taking care of her flowers, walking in the woods, and sitting by the lake listening to the loons or chorus of bullfrogs.

Elaine is survived by two sons, Michael (Jill) DeBrock of Eau Claire and Marc DeBrock of McNaughton; her daughter, Michelle DeBrock-Owens (Lonnie) of Harshaw; grandchildren, Molly DeBrock of California, Kileigh DeBrock of Rhinelander, and Nicholas Owens of Harshaw; step-grandchildren, Matt and Katie of California; great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Corvan; one brother, Alvin "Sonny" Abrahamson of Superior; dear friends, Donna Martin, Gwen Kerchefski, and Mary Lou Baraboo; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell in 1996; five sisters, Inga West, Ine Halverson, Irene Cole, Ingrid Peterson, and Illie Markon; two brothers, Leonard Abrahamson and Arne Abrahamson; and daughter-in-law, Janis DeBrock.

Elaine has requested to be cremated and her ashes to be placed with her husband on the cabin property and for loved ones not to mourn her but to celebrate her very fulfilling life.

Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) is assisting the family with arrangements.
