Eagle River Speedway opener pushed back to June 18
The main reason for the postponment is that Mother Nature's wet weather have hampered track improvement efforts, namely the project to widen the D-shaped oval.
"We're in the process of widening the track and with the weather we've been having we've decided to push the opener back just a bit," Pat Zdroik said. "We're bringing in new clay and widening the frontstretch by another 20 feet. The corners and the backstretch will be approximately 30 to 35 feet wider. What was normally a narrow track should be wide enough to provide fans some three-wide racing on occasion."
The Zdroiks have agreed to take over operation of the track from owner Michael Kocourek and have returned to the once popular Tuesday night schedule the track run used for many seasons.
One of the track's marquee events for 2019 will be the B Mod Shootout on Tuesday, July 2. Details are being worked on but this event will feature a hefty payout which is expected to draw many of the top drivers from multiple sanctions in not only north central Wisconsin, but also the hotbed of northeast Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula as well.
B Mods will be the headlining division in 2019. Eagle River Speedway B Mods will include WISSOTA-style B Mods, IMCA northern-type sportmods and USRA B mods. Other classes that are slated to compete weekly include Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, 4 Bangers, 600 Micro Sprints and Junior Sprints. The truck division will no longer be competing weekly at Eagle River Speedway in 2019.
A 10-date schedule is slated, with a practice date expected to be announced prior to the June 18 opener. Racing will be held every Tuesday night through Aug. 20, with the exception of July 30. Season championship night is slated for Friday, Aug. 30. The pit area will open at 5:30 p.m. with the grandstand opening at 6 p.m. The first green flag is ready to fly tentatively at 7:15 p.m.
