Ginger A. Alsteen, age 72 of Rhinelander, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Rennes Health and Rehab with her family by her side.

She was born Feb. 17, 1947, in Rhinelander to Clayton and Charlotte (Wales) Slack.

Ginger attended Zion Lutheran grade school and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1965. She married Gary L. Alsteen Sr. on Oct. 29, 1966, and together they raised their family of three children. In addition to her roles as wife and mother, Ginger was employed in clerical work for various businesses including a number of years with the Rhinelander Daily News and finally with Trig's until her retirement.

Among her interests, Ginger enjoyed reading, puzzle books, ceramics, crocheting, camping, and music. She especially enjoyed travel and trip adventures with family and friends provided wonderful stories and great memories. She was a gracious hostess who hosted fun-filled parties at the house for family and friends. Ginger also enjoyed supporting her husband, Gary, and his band "The Desperados" as they played throughout the area. She was a lifelong member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church. Though health challenges in later years would limit her opportunities, Ginger will be remembered for her love of family and love of fun. She is now at peace and waiting to welcome us who remain here into the Lord's heavenly kingdom.

Ginger is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gary L. Alsteen of Rhinelander; her three children, Ann (Brad) Sarkauskas of Milwaukee, Gary Jr. (Stacy Nolden) Alsteen of Rhinelander, and C.J. Alsteen of Rhinelander; four grandchildren, Noah (Andrea), Alexander, Lilianne, and Seth; four sisters, Bunny Domaika of Rhinelander, Ali (Greg) Marquardt of Rhinelander, Gerri (Jerry) Polczinski of Kenosha, and Carrie Leisure of Paragould, Ark.; brother, Randy (Debbie) Slack of Edgar; and many nieces and nephews including a special nephew, "her other son", Chris Eades.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Clayton "Spike", Howard "Bud" and David.

The funeral service for Ginger will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard Krahn officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019, at the Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) where a remembrance service with sharing will take place at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
