Elden "Buzzy" Rustad, age 85, of the Town of Pine Lake, died May 5, 2019 in Rhinelander. He was born Nov. 24, 1933 in Rhinelander to Erling "Ole" and Mildred (Ek) Rustad.

He was a lifelong resident of Rhinelander.

Buzzy graduated from the Rhinelander High School in 1953. After his schooling he served in the U.S. Navy, on the USS Neches and Mispillion. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Rhinelander and was employed by the Rhinelander Paper Company for 43 years, retiring in 1996. He met Barbara Owens and on May 17, 1958 they were married at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rhinelander. They enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage. Barbara preceded him in death on March 9, 2018.

Buzzy and Barbara were fortunate to have traveled to many places. In younger years they crammed the family into the station wagon and visited Yellowstone and all of the Great Lakes region. They also visited Boston, Niagara Falls, a train cruise from Washington to Alaska and through the interior. Buzzy also took his dad Ole and son Troy to Norway to visit family and the old home. For numerous winters Buzzy and Barbara enjoyed time in Arizona and maybe a trip or two to the casino.

In his spare time Buzzy enjoyed swimming, picnicking at Crystal Lake, hunting deer and Grouse, playing softball and snowshoe baseball. He also loved watching the boys in Little League. Buzzy enjoyed working with his hands. He enjoyed building projects and taking care of his own house and yard. If he could not go outside because of the weather, Buzzy would read, usually history books.

Buzzy is survived by his daughters Shelbra (Joseph Kennedy) Rustad and Lora Rustad, his sons Eric Rustad and Troy (Jayme) Rustad, his grandchildren Jessica (Keith) Kennedy, Jamie (Bill) Smoczyk, Kristi (Scott) McGee, Cory (Christy), Kevin (Veronica) and Craig (Emily) Dellenbach, Ashley, Kyle (Laina), Alisha (Kris), Tyler (Robin), Austin, Courtney and Lindsey Rustad, Kristopher (Lindsey), Kevin (Tania) and Kyle Kennedy; 16 great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren, his sister Ellen (William) Bloom, his brothers-in-law Mac Skinner, Robert Owens, Mike (Barb) Owens and Jeff Owens, nieces, nephews and many friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Elinor Wohlfarth, Erleen Skinner and Erna Larson and a step-great-grandchild Kaleb Kennedy.

Visitation for Buzzy will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 10 a.m. to noon, with funeral services following at noon, all at the Carlson Funeral Home.

Reverend Tammy Barthels will officiate. Interment will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery. You may leave your private condolences for the Rustad family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Rustad family.
