NCES students compare Wisconsin and Florida weather

The first-grade class at Northwoods Community Elementary School (NCES) recently completed a special project with their weather buddies with a kindergarten class in Deland, Florida. During the last two weeks in February the two classes communicated through email each morning, school officials explained in a press release. They shared their school's current temperature, current weather conditions and photos. The students learned how weather affects behavior.

The students at NCES shared photos of themselves putting on all of their winter clothes to go outside for recess. Likewise, the students in Florida shared photos of their class standing next to a blooming azalea bush wearing shorts and short-sleeved shirts.

The students learned that both locations were experiencing an abnormal winter. NCES students were receiving above average snowfalls and the students in Florida were experiencing above average high temperatures for that time of year. NCES students also shared how winter storms have caused our schools to close. On the same note, the students in Florida shared how their schools build hurricane days into their school schedule and will close when it is not safe to be outside.

The students learned that the weather affects the activities they enjoy. Currently, the Florida students enjoy playing tether ball and working in their school garden. On the other hand, NCES students are enjoying snowshoeing and sledding!
