More meets give way to more opportunity. That's exactly what happened with the Rhinelander High School track and field teams Tuesday at the Northland Pines Indoor Meet in Eagle River.

In their third meet of the year, the Hodag boys placed second with 133 points and the girls placed sixth with 61 points.

"I was encouraged by the way that our team focused after spring break and got themselves ready for the meet so quickly," coach Aaron Kraemer said. "I want them to enjoy the process."

Both junior varsity and varsity athletes participated in the meet. For the boys, it was Josh Francisco who had one of the highlights of the day. He placed first place in the long jump with a jump of 20-01.50.

For the girls, it was performances from Morgan Johnson and Delaney Chillemi that gave the Hodags a boost in the 55 meter hurdles. Johnson finished fifth with a time off 11.10 while teammate Chillemi finished sixth with a time of 11.19.

Another strong run came from Anthony Kowalski. He was victorious in the 400 meter run, sprinting to the finish line with a time of 56.53.

There were several relays that took place within the meet. One of those was the always fast 4x200 meter relay. The girls took second place in the relay with a time of 2:05.55.

The team was comprised of Isabella Anderson, Megan Brown, Sage Flory and Aryssa Zasada. It's a group with some senior leadership, but also some youth that provides a bright future, according to coach Kraemer.

"We have some great senior leaders in that group," said Kraemer. "To be chasing Medford with a couple freshman is great."

The boy's 4x200 meter relay also had success winning the race with a time of 1:41.36.

The team was comprised of Nickolas Kriesel, AJ Kopplin, Francisco and Kowalski.

Both Francisco and Kowalski showed their versatility as they also won their individual events as well.

"They're an exciting senior class," said Kraemer. "They've started running things for us and that's special for us."

In the triple jump it was Peyton Erikson coming out victorious with a jump of 40-01.

"Our jumpers are going to be a special group this year," said Kraemer.

No matter how the season plays out, the Hodag track and field teams will continue to compete at the highest level, the coach said.

The Hodags will be back in action Tuesday, April 2 at the Ashland Indoor Meet at 4:30 p.m.
