Rhinelander Green holds off Three Lakes in Senior League

The Green team took advantage of a one-out error to plate three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed in the contest.
Mason Davis scored when Three Lakes misfired to second on a fielder's choice by Quinn Lamers. Ryan Jamison followed with an RBI groundout and Jackson Smith singled in Lamers to give Rhinelander Green a quick 3-0 lead.
Three Lakes answered with two in the third on a run-scoring wild pitch and an RBI single by Mitch Wolosek, but Rhinelander Green added insurance in the fourth as Lamers walked and scored when Kolby Ridderbusch reached on a two-out error. Another two-out error in the fifth allowed Joe Schneider to score, given Rhinelander a three-run lead.
Schneider pitched four innings to pick up the win for Rhinelander. He allowed two runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Jacob Schoppe got a hold, pitching two innings of hitless ball. Smith came on to earn the save in the seventh. After putting the first two batters aboard via a walk and a hit batsman, Smith struck out the next three in order to end the game.
Rhinelander Green had a 6-2 edge in the hit column thanks in part to a two-hit night by Smith. Davis, Schneider, Jacob Schoppe and Caleb Shefveland had the other hits for Rhinelander Green, which improved to 5-4 with the win and moved into third place in the Senior League standings, 1 1/2 games behind Eagle River Blue for second.
Laser Pros beats Eagle River teams, clinches spot in regular season title game
For the second time in a week, Laser Pros International squared off with Eagle River Blue in a battle of the Senior League's top two teams. Once again, Laser Pros won the showdown.
Laser Pros jumped on Eagle River Blue for four runs in the first and got five strong innings on the mound from Tim Fox in a 5-2 win Wednesday in Eagle River.
Devyn Orth provided the big hit in the contest, a bases-clearing single on a 3-2 pitch with two outs in the first inning to plate three runs. He later scored on a passed ball to give Laser Pros a 4-0 advantage.
Eagle River got single runs back in the third and fifth innings to cut the lead to 5-2, but Laser Pros added an insurance run in the seventh as Ian Miller singled and stole home as part of a double steal with Orth.
Fox allowed two runs on two hits with six strikeouts and four walks to earn the win. Jordan Kuczmarski struck out five of the seven batters he faced in the sixth and seventh to earn the save. Ben Sinclair had two hits as Laser Pros outhit Eagle River Blue 5-3.
Thursday night, Laser Pros returned to Eagle River and rolled over Eagle River Red 12-2. Just like the night before, Laser Pros used a four-run first to build a lead it would not relinquish. However, this time around, Laser Pros scored in every inning to finish the game via the 10-run rule.
Laser Pros had only six hits in the contest but took advantage of 13 Eagle River Red walks. Miller had a two-hit day to lead the way. He also started and pitched 2 2/3 innings with five strikeouts. Orth got the win in relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. Logan Schmoeger worked a scoreless sixth for Laser Pros.
The wins move Laser Pros to 9-0 in the Senior League, 2 1/2 games ahead of Eagle River Blue and locked up a spot in the Senior League regular season championship game which will be held July 9 at Stafford Field.
Tomahawk too much for Rhinelander Green
The Rhinelander Green Prep League team could not crawl out of an early hole as it fell to Tomahawk 9-3 Thursday at Stafford Field.
Tomahawk jumped on the board with a run in the first, two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead before the Green team responded with a three-run bottom half of the fourth. Tomahawk tacked on two in the fifth and one in the sixth before the game was called due to the Prep League's 2-hour time limit.
Rhinelander Green had only four hits in the game. Three of them got a two-out rally going in the fourth. Jackson Freese and Adrian Patrone singled before Owen Kurtz hit an RBI double to left. Two batters later, Delaino Zivko reached on an error, allowing Patrone and Kurtz to score.
Logan Miller singled in the sixth for the Green team's other hit.
Rhinelander Green used four pitchers in the contest. Robert Schramke started and went two-plus innings allowing two runs on a hit with four walks and four strikeouts. Patrone pitched an inning and Ben Lyon went 1 1/3 innings. James Heck went the rest of the way, striking out four over 1 2/3 innings and allowing an unearned run.
A night earlier, Rhinelander Green fell to Prep League-leading Crandon 15-1. The losses dropped the team to 4-5 in the standings.

Rhinelander Black is scheduled to play a pair of Prep League games today at Stafford Field, beginning with an intra-city showdown against Rhinelander Green at 10 a.m. Rhinelander Black will take on Lakeland Black in the second game, before heading to Crandon on Monday.
In the Senior League, Laser Pros returns to action Monday at Tomahawk Gold while Rhinelander Green is home Tuesday to face Tomahawk Blue.
