Laser Pros beats Eagle River Blue 3-1 in Senior League showdown

Laser Pros International had three pitchers combine on a one-hitter and outdueled Eagle River Blue 3-1 in a battle of the league's two remaining unbeaten teams at Stafford Field.
Laser Pros scored twice in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie and Tim Fox recorded six strikeouts over the final two innings to move the Rhinelander team to 6-0 in the Senior League.
Leadoff singles by Devyn Orth and Ian Miller in the fifth started what proved to be the decisive rally. With Orth and Miller at second and third following steals, Jordan Kuczmarski hit a pop fly to shallow center deep enough for Orth to tag and score the go-ahead run. Logan Schmoeger followed with a double - his second of the night - to drive in Miller and give Laser Pros a 3-1 lead.
That was all Fox needed to seal the deal. He allowed Eagle River's only hit - a fly ball by Roen McGee that left fielder Ben Sinclair appeared to lose in the lights - to lead off the sixth, but then struck out the next three in order to get out of the jam. Fox struck out the first two batters of the seventh before hitting Logan Hissom with a pitch, but fanned Matthew Vedder to end the game.
Eagle River Blue (5-1) took the lead in the top of the fourth as Isaac Vedder, who led off the inning with a walk, beat a throw to the plate off a grounder by Hissom, but Laser Pros rallied in the bottom of the inning as Schmoeger doubled, got to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Logan Cook.
Jordan Kuczmarski started for Laser Pros and didn't allow a hit over three innings, while striking out four. Orth got the win in relief, pitching two innings of hitless ball with only one walk.
Laser Pros, which knocked off Tomahawk Blue 12-2 the previous night in Tomahawk, outhit Eagle River Blue 7-1 and did not commit any errors. Miller joined Schmoeger with a two-hit night for Laser Pros.
Crandon upsets Rhinelander Green
In the first game of Thursday night's doubleheader, Rhinelander Green could not make up an early deficit and fell 5-4 to previously winless Crandon in a Senior League contest.
A two-run double by Curtis Paschen gave Crandon the lead in the third inning. Those were the only two earned runs Rhinelander allowed on a night when it committed seven errors.
Crandon scored what proved to be the winning run in the fifth inning when Paschen got picked off third base, but was able to successfully outmaneuver the Rhinelander defense in the rundown to home plate to take a 5-3 lead
A couple of errors gave Rhinelander life in the seventh and allowed the Green team to score a run and pull within one. Cole Lehman, representing the tying run, got to third base with two outs, but Caleb Shefveland was robbed of a game-tying hit on a nice play up the middle by the shortstop.
Mason Davis was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a Ryan Jamison single in the first to give Rhinelander green the lead, but it was all Crandon after that. The Cardinals scored a run in the second, two in the third off Paschen's double and tacked on another in the fourth as Kolten Kaeo reached on a two-out error and scored following a trio of seeing-eye singles - the last from Blake Wilson.
The top of the order sparked a rally for Rhinelander Green in the fourth as Davis tripled to right center and scored on Jamison's single up the middle. Jamison stole second and third, and scored two batters later on a Jacob Schoppe sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 4-3.
Schoppe started and went two innings for Rhinelander Green striking out five - including a rare four-strikeout inning in the first. Kolby Ridderbusch took the loss in two innings of relief. Jamison struck out four over the final three innings.
Davis and Jamison each had two hits. They were the only player to record hits for Rhinelander Green in the contest.
Other action
Wednesday night featured another doubleheader at Stafford Field with Rhinelander Green coming alive late to take a Senior League contest from Tomahawk Gold, 11-2 and Rhinelander Black winning an intra-city Prep League showdown with Rhinelander Green, 7-4.
The Green team scored five runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to blow open a 3-2 contest. The fifth inning was highlighted by a string of six hits in seven at-bats, capped off by a double by Quinn Lamers. Singles by Davis and Jamison helped propel Rhinelander to three runs in the sixth.
The bats were on display for Rhinelander Green in the contest, as the team collected 13 hits. Jamison went 3-for-4 in the contest and Rhinelander got two-hit nights from Joe Schneider, Jacksen Smith, Michael Schramke and Davis.
Lamers started, pitched three innings and struck out seven in the contest. Smith eared the win, pitching an inning of relief in the fourth. Joe Schneider picked up a three-inning save, striking out five.
Full details from the Rhinelander Black-Rhinelander Green Prep League game were not provided prior to deadline.

There will be another doubleheader Monday night at Stafford Field. Rhinelander Black hosts Three Lakes in the early game, followed by a Senior League contest between Eagle River Blue and Rhinelander Green.
Meanwhile, this past Tuesday's rained-out doubleheader will be made up this coming Tuesday at Stafford Field. Rhinelander Green will play Eagle River in Prep League play to open the twinbill. Laser Pros will meet Crandon in the nightcap. Laser Pros led Crandon 14-0 Tuesday when play was halted in the top of the third due to rain but, according to Northwoods League rules, the game will be a complete restart.
