Names added to Wilderness Veterans Memorial
New website to go live, memorial maintenance fundraising continues
Wilderness Veterans Memorial Flame Foundation president Larry Gorrilla said 12 names were added, bringing the current total to 461 names on the memorial.
Nearly two years after the memorial's dedication, fundraising continues for maintenance of the monument.
Gorrilla said the goal for the maintenance fund is $200,000, roughly half of which has been raised.
A centerpiece of this year's fundraising effort is a dinner to be held Oct. 19 at Camp Jorn in Manitowish Waters.
Gorrilla said tickets for the dinner, to be called the "Wilderness Memorial Dinner," will go on sale in July.
"'Keep the flame lit' is the theme for the dinner," he said.
New website
Gorrilla also noted that an updated, more user-friendly website was set to go live June 10.
In addition to the information on veterans who have their names on the memorial, he said there will be pictures of the construction and dedication.
"There will be pictures taken on Memorial Day, 2019," Gorrilla said. "The website will be continually updated as we move along."
He said the calendars on the website will also contain information about different events the Presque Isle American Legion post will be involved in as well.
"The Fourth of July, the corn roast and the bingo nights," Gorrilla said.
