A hot start and contributions up and down the lineup were more than enough for Rhinelander Green to improve to 3-1 in Northwoods Babe Ruth Prep League play with a 13-3 victory in five innings over Lakeland Gray at Stafford Field Monday night.

The Hodags jumped on Lakeland for six runs in the first inning and never looked back. Rhinelander scored in every inning except the second and Tyler Morrison hit a walkoff single in the fifth to plate the clinching run for the Hodags.

Jackson Freese walked to lead off the bottom of the first for Rhinelander and then four consecutive RBI hits - singles by Max Ratty, Robert Schramke and Adrian Patrone, and a double by Owen Kurtz - gave the Green team a quick 4-0 lead with one out in the inning. Patrone scored when Morrison reached on an error and Morrison came around from second after James Heck's single was misplayed in the outfield.

Logan Miller singled and scored for Rhinelander in the third, coming in on a wild pitch moments before Kurtz laced a triple to the gap in right center. Patrone singled to drive in Kurtz.

The Hodags put themselves in position to clinch the game early, thanks to a four-run fourth. After Heck walked and Connor Augustine reached on an infield hit, Delanio Zivko hit an RBI groundout and Ben Lyon followed with an RBI single. Rhinelander eventually loaded the bases with two outs for Miller, who ripped a single up the middle to score a run. Max Ratty drew a bases loaded walk to force in Travis White and put the Green team ahead 12-2.

Lakeland extended the game in the top of the fifth as Collyn Burgess reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch, but Schamke got aboard in the bottom half of the inning for the Hodags, moved to second on Patrone's ground out and scored on Morrison's base hit to end the game.

Lakeland collected single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Twice the T-Birds were thrown out at home plate to end an inning trying to score from third on a wild pitch.

In all, Rhinelander Green collected 13 hits in the game, including two each from Miller, Kurtz and Patrone. Freese, Ratty, Schramke, Morrison, Heck, Augustine and Lyon also recorded hits.

Twelve of the 13 players in Rhinelander's lineup collected a hit, scored a run and/or tallied an RBI in the contest.

Heck started on the mound for Rhinelander and allowed an unearned run on one hit with four strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings.

Schramke picked up the win in relief, pitching an inning an a third, allowing a run on a hit with two strikeouts. Ratty struck out all three batters he faced in the fifth inning.
